I'm a network marketer and internet marketer by trade to give you a small glimpse of background.

I wanted to know who has been using Facebook for their MLM and IMing lead generation?

I've used it to help me personally created 16 distributors in one month. But I also had an awesome course a mentor of mine had created (Email me at GregoryElfrink AT Gmail.com for the link, or just PM here.)

I believe Facebook is an excellent place for business creation. Especially for MLM due to its relationship intensive orientation.

Myspace is also good but I've come to terms it is much more for quantity on Myspace than quality.

What are your thoughts?

I'm also looking at these social websites. I have basically been in face to face marketing and promoted my website.

All I know is that you have to gain acquaintanceship with people before you think of any sort of selling. Myspace may have many more people than Twitter but that does not make it better for purposes of marketing.

Like any other market it will take time to develop these.

I have personally found that social media sites like facebook, twitter, and myspace have two types of members.
Those who actually use the site to stay in touch with friends and those who use it to market. I have found that those who use it just for pure marketing purposes do not seem to develop very good relationships with there clients...it seems almost like spamming info at them with little substance.
JohnnyKim since you are already familiar with face to face marketing you would have a much better time building relationships using social media.
If you are looking for ways to market your business online (with out all the door to door and face to face) there are MANY ways both free and paid. I would look into those as well

Thanks. I feel the same way. Even in my early days of marketing I temporarily lost friends when they shunned me for selling aggressively. So I will put on my thinking cap and join a few sites.

I don't have much success promoting with facebook, I think it's because your promotional info piece is only visible for a short while on the page & then it moves down and becomes invisible as others post their info. Readers only read what they see & don't go to page 2, 3, 4 etc. A group may have thousands of members, but 99% of them only became a member so they could post a marketing message to the group & that's the last you see of them. The only people seeing your message are those who are quickly posting their own message after yours.

I've been thinking of ways to utilise Facebook for lead generation. I'm still quite new to facebook so I haven't thought of a great strategy as yet. Gregory, I wonder if you could share some tips with us on how you got your 16 distributors, that sounds really interesting

I haven't found the "sweetspot" yet in getting leads from Facebook. I agree that people who use it to stay in touch (as I do mainly) are not in the "let's figure out how to work from home" mentality.

For me the jury is still out on FB and MySpace and Twitter.
