Testing - Affiliate Programs and Products

Well, I wrapped up my first week at Wealthy Affiliate University.

Week 1 takes things pretty slowly, with not much to do but reading and surfing around the site and forums.

In addition to completing the six tasks mentioned in Wealthy Affiliate University - Week 1, I also sifted through the Learning Center and completed reading the following Guides and Tutorials at the "Junior Level":

Getting StartedJuniorGuides & TutorialsMay 23, 2009
Internet Marketing BasicsJuniorGuides & TutorialsMay 23, 2009
Penny Pincher Marketing TechniquesJuniorGuides & TutorialsMay 23, 2009
Trading Services for CashJuniorGuides & TutorialsMay 23, 2009
Article MarketingJuniorGuides & TutorialsMay 23, 2009
Using ClickbankJuniorGuides & TutorialsMay 23, 2009
Squidoo OptimizationJuniorGuides & TutorialsMay 23, 2009

Also included in the Junior Level were several videos that I did not get around to and one ebook titled "Finding Hot Markets and Keywords" which I downloaded but did not read through yet.

Naturally, the tutorials were pretty basic.  I received the most benefit from Article Marketing and Squidoo Optimization as these are 2 areas I am unfamiliar with

The Wealthy Affiliate Forums are very active and most people are helpful.  There are a lot of newbies, of course, and even with breaking things down into an 8 Week Action plan this industry still leads to information overload for many.

Wealthy Affiliate Hosting

Since Wealthy Affiliate includes hosting for up to 3 websites, I decided I would play around with their hosting as well.  To put it kindly, I wouldn't recommend it to someone that already had hosting elsewhere.  I needed to set up a new website to work in conjunction with my local advertising business here at home, so I purchased a domain name and picked a compatible niche from Wealthy Affiliate's NicheQ program.

At first glance, NicheQ seems like a neat little inclusion in the Wealthy Affiliate membership.  After working with it a little longer, I give some more feedback.  You can visit the link to see for yourself what all is included.  Currently they have 8 niches available and you get access to one additonal niche each month.

Back to the subpar hosting.

They use Plesk for their control panel.  I am familiar with and prefer cpanel.  But that wasn't really the bad part(I can learn a new control panel just fine).

The problem was that the offerings in Wealthy Affiliate's hosting are outdate.  I am setting up my new site on WordPress and the version they had available for install was 2.0, which is over 3 years old and 2 versions prior to the current 2.7.1.  Unacceptable.

The silver lining in all of this is that it gave me a chance to bitch to one of the owners and see their response time.  The lucky winner was Kyle.  He read and responded to my PM within 24 hours.  That's a positive thing.

Kyle also noted that they are aware of the shortcomings in the hosting they offer and are working to rectify it.  Also a good thing.

I also glanced at Wealthy Affiliate University's website builder SiteRubix.  I'll probably give that a shot during one of the tasks during the 8 week action plan.  I build my sites with either Joomla or WordPress, so I normally wouldn't have a use for SiteRubix.

I'll wrap this now as I've rambled long enough.  I did cover a couple other things this week, but I'll update you on those during Week 2.

Until then,

Chris B.
